Activities for the 20th edition of Nigeria Polytechnic Games, NIPOGA, the biennial sporting activities among the nation’s polytechnics and colleges of technology got to feverish pitch on Wednesday as the hosting institution, the Kwara State Polytechnic briefed the press and other stakeholders on its level of preparedness.
The Rector of the polytechnic, Dr. Abdul Jimoh Mohammed explained that a total of 4,000 participants comprising 3,000 athletes and 1,000 officials from 51 polytechnics will converge on the campus, including the state stadium between February8 through 16 to compete in 12 gaming events.
The events, he said, are volleyball, table tennis, scrabble, hockey, athletics, handball, tennis, basketball, chess, badminton, taekwondo and football.
Mohammed stated that “the facilities to be used for the games have been put in proper shape so as to make the participants feels at home during the event”.
He said the sum of about N190m was projected as budget for the sports meet, that is intended to “foster unity among participating institutions, encourage discipline and enhance physical fitness, while it will also remove cultural, tribal, religious, racial barriers and other parochial differences etc”.
He assured that his institution would host the best games and raise the bar beyond what was obtained in 1981 when the institution first hosted NIPOGA.
